9/4/01: Nomo’s Second No-No

9/4/01: Nomo's Second No-No (c) MLB Vault

(c) MLB Vault 2001/09/04: Boston Red Sox 3 at Baltimore Orioles 0, F — Making his first start for Boston, Hideo Nomo throws his second no-hitter; only the fourth pitcher to spin …

Nomo is still the ONLY pitcher to toss No Hitters at Coors Field and Camden Yards.

Nomo was one of my favorite pitchers to watch growing up. love his delivery

That tornado delivery, love watching nomo pitch

Hideo Nomo is a true gentleman. He changed the world.

Thank you for posting this! So awesome. He led the league in Ks and BBs in 2001

The date of the game was April 4th 2001. It was the second game of the season. I remember because I drove from Massachusetts to attend the opening day at Camden Yards in which Pedro Martinez pitched and the Red Sox lost on a walk-off. I was strongly debating staying for the whole series and I really wish I did cuz I would have seen the no-hitter but I drove back to Massachusetts and then regretted it when Nomo’s no hitter hit the news

Nomo was the only pitcher to throw a no-hitter on the road in the American League between 1992-2010

I’ve been going through all these no hitter videos and Delino DeShields is in half of them.

Kinda cool to see Dante Bichette be one of the first guys out to congratulate Nomo.He must’ve been thinking that he was glad not to be on the losing end of this Nomo no-hitter like he was in Colorado

That ponson kid was pretty impressive. His two seamer really flattened out after the second inning though

Despite this, 2001 was a pretty crummy year for the Red Sox

How funny is it that Delino Deshields was at Nomo’s first No Hitter at Coors Field as his teammate who recorded the next to last out then at his second one as the last out.Btw, what a horrible trade the stupid Dodgers made trading Pedro Martinez for Delino.

Wonder how many other pitchers have thrown a no hitter in their debut start for a team?

eso fue lanzar un Juego de pelota!

The date is wrong now matter how you style the date. This game occurred on the 4th of April.

なんで松井なんだろう…。野茂さんこそ国民栄誉賞だとおもうけどな。

EVERY final play from the World Series from 1990-2020!

EVERY final play from the World Series from 1990-2020! (c) MLB Vault

(c) MLB Vault Want to see the final play of every World Series from 1990 to 2020? Well, you are in luck! MLB Vault has you covered. Don’t forget to subscribe!

As a Giants fan, I will forever cherish the Even Year Giants. All three of those runs were nothing but torture to triumph. The 2010 miSFits are still extremely beloved in the bay. 2012 was clutch.2014 was legendary.Thank you Bruce Bochy for those great years.

Man as great as it was seeing the Astros lose in 2019, knowing what we would know later in the months that followed, part of me hates it was Brantley that struck out as opposed to Altuve, Correa Bregman or Springer. He wasn’t on that 2017 team, had no part in the cheating, actually is a pretty likeable guy.

As a die-hard Dbacks fan, that ‘01 series means the world to me. Gonzo, Randy, and Curt were immortalized here in PHX that night.

Even tho I’m a dodgers fan I think we can all agree it was nice to see manny machado strike out on a knee

Every single one of these makes me happy (other than 2014, Giants deserved it but I still hate that Bumgarner almost exclusively beat my Royals in that series). But there is no disputing that Chris Sale’s celebration is the absolute best of anyone in this video. Just calmly raising the arms like the champion he was that night.

I so glad you used Harry kalas call for the Phillies win. One of the greatest voices in all of sports

1:26 That call by the late Tom Cheek is an epic one. What a way to cap off a World Series. That home run by the Blue Jays’ Joe Carter over the Phillies in 1993 was only the second time a home run has ended the series. The first was in 1960, when the Pirates’ Bill Mazeroski hit one to give his team the win over the Yankees.

Four straight WS ended with Mo on the mound. Four years later, we were about two feet away from three straight WS ending with a ground ball to the pitcher.

A homerun win by the underdog team has to be the best.

The Nationals ending reminded me of the Mets in 86′ when Orosco threw hit mitt up in the air at the end. Very memorable. Braves got it done in 2021. Hotlanta Braves.

Just an observation. The last two celebrations have been unique. A player throwing his glove directly at the opposing team, and then the pitcher on the dodgers just literally standing there not even jumping around.

I was rooting for the Rays ever since they beat the Yankees in the ALDS, but I think we all knew that the Dodgers would win.

Every World Series Championship from 1990-1993 with the exception of a 1994 game that was halted due to the strike. 1995-2020 are amazing and a few surprises.

The plotline for “Back to the Future Part 2” had the Cubs winning in 2015 against a “Miami opponent.” Incredible how they were off by 1 year. BTW the movie was made in 1989 and the Marlins were not founded until 1991.The Cubs did make it to the 2015 NLCS.

Look at such a great lineup of 30 years World Series Champions…… and the Houston Astros

Note about the 2004 Red Sox: only 5 teams in major sports history have come from down 0-3 to win a 7 game series. Four of them were in hockey, most recently Los Angeles vs San Jose in 2014; only one in baseball, and it was the 2004 Red Sox (against the Yankees in the ALCS). Dave Roberts, Dodger manager for two WS losses and one WS win, was a catalyst on that team.

4 walk off hits in 30 years and none since ’01… We are due for a walk off in game 7 one of these years…

2004, 2011, 2016, and 2017 were easily the best post season years in recent history that I can remember. The post seasons were just so electric.

Aside from my Royals winning in 2015 my favorite is Posada getting tagged out running to first for the Marlins 2nd World Series win.

I remember watching every single one of these moments live since 2014. Go ROYALS

1978 World Series, Game 6: Yankees @ Dodgers

1978 World Series, Game 6: Yankees @ Dodgers (c) MLB Vault

(c) MLB Vault New York Yankees 7 at Los Angeles Dodgers 2, F — Game 6 turned out to be grand finale for the unlikely heroic duo of Bucky Dent and Brian Doyle.

ONe of the great things about the 70s and baseball was it was just about baseball. There were no ads distracting you behind the plate. No ads on the outfield walls, no ads on the back wall of the dugout, no Joe Buck reading ads after every out. It was just baseball.

This was the year the Yankees rallied from a 14-game deficit in mid-July and defeated the Red Sox in the famous one-game playoff on October 2 at Fenway.

This is so great that you have the complete game, wow! I remember watching this game with my family, all long time NY fans. Thanks!!

01:52:06 Jackson homers!! Reggies homer is still traveling in orbit 41 years later. Great 78 Yankees!!

Agreed. I’ve seen many long homers since I started watching baseball, which was around 1977. As far as absolutely perfect contact and power meeting power to drive a ball a LONG way, the homer Reggie hit off Welch may be unequaled.

Dodger Stadium looks the same in this modern era as it did back in ’78, along with the Dodgers’ home uniforms – clearly one of the most storied teams in the history of baseball

Also the Yankees’ road uniforms look exactly the same back in ’78 as they do right now in this modern era. Two of baseball’s most storied teams going head to head for the second year in a row and most possibly for the umpteenth time – cannot beat the excitement of the World Series in the late ’70s.

The homer that Reggie Jackson hit in the 6th inning was huge.Tony Vargas has spoken

R. I. P. James (catfish) Hunter, my friend as a child in Fort Lauderdale FL. During spring training!

1:52:06 Reggie just ANNIHILATES Welch’s fastball

I remember watching this game ( with my family) like it was yesterday. I was all of 24 years young and went out to celebrate with my friends afterwards. Ahh… The great old days indeed

That is my all time favorite Yankee team. I cried that night because I was so happy that they pulled it off. God bless Catfish and Thurman.

That Yankees line-up was stacked. As a pitcher, how would you like to be facing Reggie Jackson, Thurman Munson, Lou Piniella, Graig Nettles, and Chris Chambliss? ALL good hitters with power

Beattie’s misfortune was that the Yanks went out & signed Luis Tiant and Tommy John in the offseason. Since they still had Hunter, Guidry and Figueroa, Beattie wasn’t really given the chance he desrved after doing so well for the Yanks down the stretch in 78. In September & October he did a good job, but it was so typical of the Yanks under George to lose faith in a promising youngster quickly if he struggled a bit. Had it not been for GM Gabe Paul, Guidry would’ve been traded in April of 77.

I always loved the sound of Joe Garagiola’s voice, He was an awesome broadcaster!

well, hopefully someone will upload them soon. the yankee stadium was absolutely rockin for all three games.

Love Tom Seaver’s analysis.

Culmination of one of the greatest comeback years by any team ever. And do it on the Dodgers field where the yanks didn’t have to run into the clubhouse was great, they celebrated like kids around Catfish and Thurman. After coming back from 2-0 in games. What an amazing World Series win.

loved this opening theme… my favorite baseball theme!!

2:27:33…..Munson chases after and catches punk who stole a Yankee hat……and this was before the memorabilia craze…..Munson was known as being much faster than the average catcher!

9/8/98: Mark McGwire Hits No. 62

9/8/98: Mark McGwire Hits No. 62 (c) MLB Vault

(c) MLB Vault Chicago Cubs 3 at St. Louis Cardinals 6, F — The single-season home run mark of Roger Maris had stood for 37 years, three seasons longer than Babe Ruth …

Will never forget the great summer of 98!

The coolest part was that all the cubs players gave him hugs and hand shakes as he rounded the bases. I don’t care what people say this was a good moment in sports.

In case any of the “geniuses” here forgot: In his rookie season, McGwire hit 49 home runs. He always had a good home run stroke, and he put on the muscle over a period of many years.

1:01:10 Two guys that had a lot of respect for each other. This was a great moment.

1:01:53 when McGwire embraced Roger Maris’s children-very cool and a class act!

Regardless of anything else, when he and Sammy did each other’s celebrations with each other.. That was awesome.. One of the best moments in sports history at the time.

The two titans who saved baseball, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. 70 and 66 will live forever in the memories of baseball fans.

Steroids or no, you need to remember that many people where watching and or returning to baseball just to watch this moment. He brought baseball back.

This was MLB’s peak, I believe. It was a continual downslide until the lowest point at 2017.

One of the all time most glorious moments in baseball. Nothing will ever change that

What a great moment. Love this.

It is always great and nostalgic to hear the voice of the beloved Jack Buck!! I was in attendance at this amazing game. I was sitting in outfield section 507, Row 28, Seat 5 with my friend Edward Brundick. It was an amazing moment in my life and one that I am already sharing with my son, Coleman Kimmel.

Despite the controversy, I have to admit this gives me goosebumps.

Great sportsmanship by the Cubs

McGwire, the greatest baseball homerun hitter of all time. He’s been this good since he first broke into the majors.

How Mark embraces Sammy, and then tries to emulate Sosa’s go-to chest kisses, just melts the heart — no animosity — pure sportsmanship. Steroids schmeroids, these are real ball players.

That year, 1998, was the most exciting season I have ever watched.

I like how they say at the beginning “we hope this will be a memorable game for you”. You know what would have made it epic and legendary. If Steve Trachsel would have pitched a no hitter, or even a perfect game. We all watched to see big mac hit hit 62nd, instead, we see a no hitter/perfect game.

The best part about the homerun: Cubs players + McGwire/Sosa. Sportsmanship, well wishes, and class. 🙂

Big Mac saved the game of baseball (at the time) and helped make 1998 into one of the most followed seasons in history. I suppose everyone should have known something was up when Sammy Sosa started hitting so many home runs, as Sosa was a horrendous player with marginal power when he was on the Rangers and the White Sox before ending up with the Cubs

1982 World Series, Game 7: Brewers @ Cardinals

1982 World Series, Game 7: Brewers @ Cardinals (c) MLB Vault

(c) MLB Vault Milwaukee Brewers 3 at St. Louis Cardinals 6, F — Clutch hits by Keith Hernandez and George Hendrick backed the gutsy pitching of Joaquin Andujar.

Love, love, love the fact that the broadcasters didn’t feel the need to talk every second. They just allowed the sights and sounds to speak for themselves.

This has to be the most mustachioed World Series of all time. Even without Rollie Fingers. Everyone was rocking them back in ’82.

1982 was a tremendous WS from a uniform pers

Who would’ve thought that some 30 years later, the Brewers would be in the National League (thus, can no longer face the Cardinals in the World Series) and the Houston Astros would be in the American League?

watched this game live on tv with my grandpa … was in 6th grade …. ah, the good ol’ days, when the fans could run onto the field!

The Cardinals should have won two World Series in four years. Don Denkinger blown call cost us that championship in 1985. To this day, I am still bitter about it.

How do we NOT remember Willie McGee’s catch with revered tones. Im sure in St Louis they do, but that was one of the greatest plays Ive ever seen in a WS

Wow! I watched this game on TV at Graham dormitory of Univ. of Missouri, Columbia. It refreshes all those good memories in my college days. Many thanks, MLB Vault. Now the new ball game season begins. Go CARDS for title #12!

the players are fantastic, we always have talent!!! we love our home team!!!! we respect the players who made the team!

I’d love to see one of today’s players respond to winning the MVP the way Darrell Porter did. Such humility and class. Love it.

Tom Seaver. Great arm, great voice, great baseball mind, and great hair — the most shocking of all, considering he pitched from the Summer of Love, all the way through the Silly Seventies, into the Metal Years.

2:29:43 “Sutter from the belt – to the plate – a swing and a miss! And that’s a winner! That’s a winner! A World Series winner for the Cardinals!” – Jack Buck

Rest in peace Joaquin. I’d like to think he’s now in Heaven playing catch with Darrel Porter.

every team member made it so great! The final out was the best!!!!!!!!

Have to say, Yount sure looked safe at third to me on the throw from Hendricks in right. I’m not sure Obkerfell even tagged him. But baseball as played in the late 70s-mid 80s was like that. So bang-bang. Really miss that kind of play.

Outstanding!!! From the year of my birth. Ozzie Smith and the mighty St. Louis Cardinals vs. Robin Yount and the (then American League) Brewers. Harvey’s Wallbangers. Dick Enberg, Joe Garagiola, Tom Seaver, and a young Bob Costas. Are you kidding? This is beyond classic. I’ve been a Cardinals fan basically since birth. And I was born into this. 👍🏻

Great World Series. I think the Brewers would have taken it if Fingers wasn’t injured.

gotta love the 80’s jerseys!

I love how these older games picked up the crack of the bat.

one of the best games EVER!!!!! CARDINALS!! Bruce was such an awesome pitcher!!
