I was 13 years old when i went to this game. So many memories from this game: Pedro dominating, Ted Williams, all century team, all the greats I got to see in one sitting (Pedro, Griffey, Randy Johnson, Manny, McGwire, Sosa, Hoffman, Jeter etc). This night will always stay with me

The nostalgia!!! I watched this game as a 10 year old with my Grandpa! Incredible memories. Love Baseball!

I’m no Red Sox fan, but even I loved the intro with Ted Williams around the 36:00 mark.

Hard to watch this and not miss the 90’s. Easily the best decade EVER to have been alive…. IMO.

Juan Gone was one of my favorite players back in the 90s. Loved watching him and Pudge play for the Rangers. Such a shame his career died as soon as he was traded to the Tigers.

Greatest HR derby in my opinion. The time period, the building, super stars bigger than their generation, the insane HR’s with Gonzalez hitting the upper deck and KG Jr. hitting the warehouse. This may be the pinnacle of baseball, before steroids totally took over, before cell phones took over, before the internet took over, and men were men.

I love how the announcers admit that Bonds was better than Griffey at this point, but it was universally assumed that Griffey would have the better career. Little did they know how much things would change for each man after the 2000 season.

My gosh, Griffey was such a great player, and that swing! Definitely one of the most talented to ever play the game, and always humble.

What an awesome era of baseball. These players were so fun to watch. It seems like baseball has regressed a bit since then. I think Trout, Soto and Acuna would fit in with these guys though..

damn…this is simply awesome! I was in 2nd or 3rd grade at this time and I can vividly remember thinking there was NO ONE cooler than Ken Griffey Jr…what a line up for a HR Derby though!

I find it amazing that Prince and Cecil both have 319 home runs and are pretty much tied in RBI’s as well. It’s crazy how things work out.

Man, big memories watching this tape — I watched this all the time on recorded VHS when I was a young ballplayer.

2005 World Series, Game 4: White Sox @ Astros

Funny how this series isn’t talked about nearly as much as the Red Sox in ’04. I can only imagine how exciting it was for the White Sox fans with such a long streak of their own.

I’m so glad my grandfather got to see this before he passed away. �he used to take me to the Old Comiskey with the green girders that swayed and bowed back and forth if the wind was stiff. �He always got peanuts. We loved watching Harold Baines and Carlton Fisk and the rest!

Two years in a row, two curses came to an end. The Red and White Sox both ended 8 decades of hurt.

I hate how they kinda just shoved the 2005 white sox under the rug.

Being a Red Sox fan, and disappointed that we couldn’t repeat in 2005, I was definitely happy that the White Sox broke their own curse and won it all here. They are one of my favorite teams behind the Red Sox. 🙂

Is it me or does it seem like the Sports Media have forgotten about the 2005 WORLD CHAMPION Chicago White Sox?

So many great personalities on that team. I miss them all! Tim McCarver said it best: this 2005 White Sox team could beat any team from any era.Dominant starting pitching; strong, reliable bullpen with a shutdown closer; clutch and timely hitting; solid, fundamental defense; lots of speed; and a bunch of personalities that were all pulling for each other. Am I missing anything?

I’m a diehard, true blue, Cub fan and I rooted hard for the White Sox the whole postseason because I wanted Chicago to have a baseball championship. My hometown comes first. Sox had first pennant for the city since ’59 and the first WS since ’17 and while I couldn’t work up the excitement I would for the Cubs, I was proud for Chicago. There were a lot of us, whom I knew, who felt the same way.

Most underrated team in MLB history.

As a Dodger fan, these are the Astros I respect. the NL franchise with classy players such as Biggio, Berkman and Bagwell that played the right way.

Interesting….The Red Sox win the year before was more celebrated nationally, but the White Sox actually went without longer…

Luckily, in my life I’ve been fortunate enough to see every team I root for win titles in their sports. ’85 Bears’90’s Bulls’05 White Sox2010’s BlackhawksEven got to watch the Cubs break the curse and win a series. Granted, I was only 3 when the Bears won, but the ’06 Bears were an amazing team and almost got the W!

I remember running a lap around my cul-de-sac after that final out. Pure, unadulterated joy.

I’m seeing this in 2021 and I’m still very tense….very tense game. Very tense 9th inning. Astros games were all pretty tight. Not an easy win in the series.

For me this is the greatest moment I ever got to see in my Chicago sports loving life I just wish my father was alive to see this moment happen. But I know my parents both were smiles see the Sox win a WS for me and my brothers

Imagine this series one year later in 2001, with what happened in 9/11 a subway series would have been epic and a very heart felt tribute to the city of New York

What’s amazing about the 2000 New York Yankees world championship squad is that they stumbled into the playoffs going 3-18 in their final 21 regular season games.�In the playoffs, they were pushed to the Best-of-5 limit against the Oakland Athletics and were in trouble against the Seattle Mariners in the ALCS until Bernie Williams hit a clutch bomb in Game 2 and then Roger Clemens Game 4 15-K performance put the Yankees back into vintage Yankee mode.�

I was there with my dad. We sat in the upper deck in right field. We were the only yankee fans there surround with mets fans. When Bernie caught the final out. We both cheered by yourselves while everyone else sat down and cry or disappointed they lost. I hope to see another subway series in my lifetime. Go Yankees!!!!

i miss the NYY dynasty. so many great players, a great manager and the old yankee stadium. the new yankee stadium just isnt the same.

I wish I was old enough to remember games like these, I was only 2. These seemed like such good years for baseball especially in pre-9/11 New York.

I hate the Yankees in the most sports hate way possible. But damn I respected those Torre-led teams. They were the epitome of play the right way. You had to beat them. They NEVER beat themselves. Just an incredible team.

Nothing will ever come close to this dynasty, I just find it funny, growing up as a Sox fan, that the “extreme dominance” over the Red Sox that the Yankees have, always historically, but also recently, that “recently” is now only 5-3, crazy to think that considering how far the two franchises were from each other in 2000.

I remember watching this game so well. That 9th inning with Sojo’s 2 run single. What a moment. Going for the three peat against the Mets was big to Yankee fans. We appreciated this one. I love Al Leiter and felt heartbroken for him. He pitched his ass off. He deserved better. He got beat by a walk and two seeing eye singles that weren’t hit all that well. As Yankee fans found out in 2001 losing from a non well hit single is really rough. Diamondbacks punished us next year the same way. It’s heartbreaking. Al Leiter was incredible in this series.

A pleasure to be able to look back at a fine game, beautifully pitched. A remarkable degree of concentration from Leiter.

Greatest Ending Ever for the 2000 Subway Series is the New York Yankees.

I came to this video to watch Derek Jeter’s momentum-shifting solo home run. Kris Bryant’s performance for the Cubs in the last couple of games reminded me of Jeter in this game and in Game 4.Solo home runs are only worth one run of course, but they can be so huge momentum-wise. The Bryant solo homers reminded a lot of Jeter’s in how they inspired his teammates and demoralized opponents.

This is the series that started making me a Baseball fan and a Die Hard Mets fan. Living in NY as a 11 year old at the time I was in 6th grade at a school named I.S 73 in Elmhurst/Flushing Queens NY. I knew nothing about baseball, all I knew is that me and my family are from the Dominican Republic and my dad would watch baseball on this mini TV box in the garage on a nice day. He would always mention some players and I would always hear about Pedro Martinez, Mike Piazza, Sammy Sosa, Mark Mcweier, Ken Griffy Jr, Vladimir Guerrero, Derek Jeter… but I knew nothing about the sport, all I cared about was wwf wrestling and pokemon at the time. Then when the world series/subway series came around that october, it was EVERYWHERE! I’m 29 now and iv had the blessing of living in different states in America in my life but I never seen nothing like the world series in the year 2000 in NYC. Never experienced nothing like it, I mean this was everywhere you go people were talking about it. Half the city were cheering for The Mets and half were cheering for the yankees. I remember going to school around that September especially October and seeing teachers and students with yankees and mets jerseys hats and shirts . It was crazy, the whole school!!!! It was my first year of junior high middle school and in between classes we would take 10 minutes to walk to the next class and every 2 minutes you would hear students rioting yelling, some altogether chanting “LET’S GO YANKEES” Some “LET’S GO METS” and it was the whole school all day long during those weeks. It was like being at the game, students who didn’t know eachother were high fiving and chanting together, and it was like this everywhere in NYC. During all this I knew I had to make a desigion and choose a team and since back in 1997 I was taking to shea stadium for my 7th birthday that year and both my sisters chose to band wagon the yankees, and my mom n dad liked the Mets, I figured I choose to band wagon the Mets ! just to be in on the whole wave trend. Little did I realize that was the birth of a wonderful great NY METS journey. Win or Lose I love the Mets forever! From 2000 to 2004 I was band wagon fan then I started watching some of 2005 season after I witnessed game by game what the redox did to the yankees in 04, and learning that the Mets signed Pedro Martinez. After that it made me study baseball and actually learn the rules and the 05 Mets were starting to get interesting again and so by 2006 and on I was officially a DIE HARD METS FAN. I hope we will win at least one or many more world series in my lifetime and I will cry like a baby when/if that happens. There’s been other teams that’s waited a long time and so am I willing to wait 🙂 LGM

Yankee fan here. Watching it back in 2000, I was just happy when Sojo got the hit. Having watched it a couple of times since then, my heart breaks for Al Leiter in that moment. What a game for him. Not meant to be. And you knew when Posada worked out a walk, the Yankees were going to score.

Hats off to the Mets…..

2006 World Series, Game 5: Tigers @ Cardinals

The journey to the 2006 Title began in 2000. 2000, Cards trade for Jim Edmonds. 2001, Cards intoduce Albert Pujouls to the majors and you know the rest. 2002, get to the NLCS but lose to the Giants. 2004, Cards get Yadier Molina and get to the World Series but fall to the Red Sox. 2005, Albert wins NL MVP and Chris Carpenter wins NL Cy Young Award but Cards get upset by The Houston Astros. 2006, All the events of 2000-2005 made The Cards mentally strong and despite their poor regular season record, made them ready for the postseason. A 6 year journey finally paid off and ended a 24 year World Series Drought for The Cardinals, becoming the 1st team since the 1918 Red Sox to win a World Series in a 1st year Ball Park. Love the 2006 Cardinals

we’re so spoiled (and passionate) as Cardinals fans, We didn’t win for 24 years and the entire city lost it’s god damned mind. I love it!!

The team was better in 2004 and 2005, so 2006 was a makeup for the other two years. Unexpected, but very nice nevertheless.

So happy for John Edmonds. It was a long time coming for him. Josh Weaver as well, who finally got redemption after his failed Yankee stint.

I was lucky enough to be at this game in person, and while it was really cold & damp, it was also an amazing experience to say the least! I have dreamed for years of seeing the Cardinals win the World Series at home in person..and it happened!! All this from a team that many people said didn’t have a chance to win even one playoff game that year. Thank you 2006 St. Louis Cardinals!

I was at games 4 and 5 with my Dad when I was only 7 or so years old. My dad passed away a few years after and these are some of my fondest memories I had with him. Will never forget these nights. Cardinals fan for life.

I remember a number of sports articles that year completely dismissing the Cardinals and the same writers then having to eat their words after the World Series. Sports can be so much fun in that regard. 🙂

I was born 10/25/85- Don Denkinger day. My dad never let me forget it. In 06 I jokingly said if the cards make the series we should go as game 5 was my 21st birthday (remember, 83-79…long shot!). Dad said yes and we went with my grandpa (who died before the next world series). Great memories. Only bad thing was that due to rain (10/25) they kept game 5 tickets (10/26) but played it as the 4th game. So we should have been for the celebration. Oh well. Go to a World Series if you can. It’s like nothing else in baseball.
