この歌、芥川龍之介の「桃太郎」国策映画の「桃太郎　海の神兵」この二つのコンテンツを知るとなんだか凄い曲だと分かった。

for western viewers, this song is based on a folktale called “Momotaro” or Peach boy. Its about this boy who was born from a peach, his parents were an elderly couple who couldnt have kids so they took it as a blessing from the gods. His dad taught Momotaro how to fight, and soon enough he grew up to be a strong boy. The village that he lived in had a problem though, Ogres or Oni would raid the village and steal valuables. Momotaro offered to venture out and take the treasure back. His parents were hesitant at first but soon agreed to let him go, his mother gave him some kibidango or millet dumplings and his dad gave him armor and a sword. On his way to Ogre Island or Onigashima he met a dog, a pheasant and a monkey, which all in exchange for one kibidango agreed to help him on his journey. they soon arrived to Ogre Island and worked together to defeat the monsters. Momotaro and his friends returned home to his village as a hero. edit:the story changes a bit based on where you look, the story that i was always told said that is dad was an ex samurai who turned into a farmer, some say he was a farmer the whole time and some even say he was a bamboo cutter.

Ok…i’ll try to explain what’s going on.This video is about a Japanese legend of a guy called Momotaro who one day when he was still a child was found by an old lady inside some kind of big peach. One day when the village was attacked by monsters, Momotaro decided to go to defeat them. the “mother” before he went gave him a package with rice balls (his favorite food). On his way he met first a pheasant, then a dog and a monkey. All three before accompanying him asked him for a ball of rice, and he accepted. After passing seas and mountains he arrived at the monster base where, thanks also to his three friends, he was able to defeat the monsters and restore peace to the village.

I like the wordplay with this song. “一休　（いっきゅう）” Can be read as ひとやすみ, which means to “take a break, catch one’s breath.” She follows up with “お疲れさん” (おつかれさま is a term often used to express thanks for a coworker or friend for having worked hard) and “Have a Have a 一休”, meaning “have/take a break”. All in all, the play on words makes this for an interesting song for learners of Japanese.
