I was heating hotdogs in the microwave a while back, and the first time they came out still cold (this one doesn’t have a rotating plate). I put them back in, but this time rotating the plate 90�. Left them in for the same amount of time, and bam. Steaming hot. I was so baffled about this ever since. Now I know it had to do with hot spots from the micro waves. Thank you.

My older microwave malfunctioned once and didn’t turn off when I opened the door. My hand closest the microwave felt like the hair was standing up. Didn’t hurt or anything. I turned it off after a couple seconds I realized what was happening. Years later they had to cut off my hand due to massive deformities. Kidding.. nothing happened.

Good video. You should’ve covered the wavelength size of the 2.45 ghz vs cell size of the metal seethrough mesh of the front door, that would be a good explanation why microwaves cannot penetrate that mesh. Maybe even cover induced harmonics in it too just for fun.

You should have explained the Mesh on the window.It is specifically designed so the electromagnetic wave can’t get out.It does that, by having holes of a small enough size.(I believe smaller than 1/4 of the wavelength or something like that)

6:25 – Finally someone explained in detail how exactly a food microwave works. So the greatest peaks of the microwave’s amplitude is the one that creates hotspots? It would make sense since all peaks in a wave has the most energy. What would happen if the peak of the microwave is below the food? As if the peak of the wave is actually greatest at the surface of the microwave oven’s floor and not on the surface of the food? Maybe the microwave oven is designed such that the peaks of the wave will always remain at the level of the surface of the food…

I have a question. In the animation where the antenna creates the signal, you can see that he signal spreads out as it propagates. During the animation where the antenna receives the signal, you just played the first animation in reverse, but wouldn’t the geometry of the incoming signal look completely different (it wouldn’t magically be drawn towards a point)?? Thanks!

From a non-expert perspective, the turbo shaft engine have so many movable parts that is easy to fail. However, i read in the report of a recent helicopter crash, that killed a famous brazilian journalist, the main cause was due to lack of maintenance of the compressor rotor for more than 30 years. Its impressive that such a complex engine worked more than 3 decades without maintenance.

Even though I already understood the contained information, the sweet visualization and the direct to the point accompanying explanation made this video a pleasure to watch. Big thumb up.

Once again I’ve got to say thanks for this amazing tutorial to understanding a turboshaft engine. I am currently studying aircraft maintenance and the content of this video is very handy to have a deeper knowledge of this sort of engine.I’m definitely sharing it with my classmates so they can benefit as well, also I will make the Spanish captions to help them understand it better.

Great video, fantastic graphics! I’d add one thing, the #1 way engine manufacturers prevent compressor stalls is by using a bleed valve (or T53 bleed band) type feature. Stalls most commonly occur during accel or decel unless you have damage like you mention. (30 year Helicopter mechanic, changed many bleed valves!

Ive been looking for a reasonable schematic of a turbo shaft engine for years, and I finally stumble upon this video. This is some amazing stuff, my mind is blown.

For years, all the explanations I could find skipped over the one-way clutch, but I couldn’t see how the converter could work without it; how could you have more torque out than in with no connection to be body of the transmission? Finally, about 15 years ago, I just Googled “torque converter” AND “one way clutch” to find a complete explanation. This animation makes it even easier to understand. Thanks for posting.

How instinctive and well described explanation on the public eye level it is. I can even go so far as to say that the quality of this video must be much more worth than any stuff used in school nowadays and I think we should study and share these well made videos for every child who is living with these technologies. 1:15 incredible and fascinating how the torque converter can maintain handling and transferring so much power to the wheels. So incredible how gearing works so smoothly, and all combined can actually handle and displace all of it to the axle and wheels spinning with enough power.

Normal industrial machines rotate at a frequency of 50/60 Hz depending on the region they’re running in. But in electric vehicles is there a fixed output frequency or can you choose the freqency depending on the elctric vehicle?

Hi, classic explanation and excellent animation. Thanks. What would happen if you Swapped out the squirrel cage for a capacitive inductor like a bifilar wound coil? (another NT invention/patent) Tesla called it shifting the phase of the magnetic field. With this in mind, you could really upgrade the explanation of how this works, taking it to the next level.
