I would love to learn Aikido. I think I would benefit on learning how to roll and falling without getting injured.

I wonder how efficient it is against non cooperative fighters

I read somewhere that Aikido was originally intended in the 14th century to disarm sword weilding samurai using only one’s hands. If I’m not mistaken, the Japanese government outlawed Samurais carrying swords in the late 19th century. Morihei Ueshiba founded modern Aikido sometime in the early 20th century and that’s what it’s known as today.

The performance is beautiful yeah,but on the street and compared to other martial/fighting arts, aikido is like giving an alcoholic a vodka shot and expecting not to drink it,which makes it kinda useless in real fighting situations

When shihan move quickly and uses some power, you see the flow and the response that Aikido is supposed to have, similar to O Sensei’s Aikido.His counters are unique and interesting…It would be enjoyable to train with him, but I don’t know if my ukemi would still be up to it.

Beautiful fluid motion and flow of energy! I would love to travel to Japan for a few years to train with this masterful sensei!

Very beautiful, do not forget that jujitsu and aiki jujitsu Daito Ryu was the base for modern aikido. I trained at Saito sensei aikido seminar in California and he explained that at the begining you needed to be a dan-holder nidan o above in any other martial arts to trains with O’sensei Eushiba, the founder of aikido.

Beautiful kata, uke’s ukemi is flawless. Some good ideas presented here IMO, and quite a few techs you won’t see in any judo comp for safety reasons.I’ll be rewatching this…

Beautiful and technical. It would be nice to see you take it in the other direction, with closer distances and more speed in the attackers feeds while maintaining the softness of Aikido.

Very impressive and beautiful! This is the most beautiful Jiu Jitsu I have ever seen.

Aikido is also jujitsu irrespective of the fact that techniques were/are omitted from the repertoire for a majority of the schools. But in reality the techniques have always been there including ne waza….in the end it is INTENT that differentiates Aiki from other approaches as it gives the ability and method to subdue without damage to an assailant if possible. Also I always emphasized to the new kohai’s that they are as good as their ability to take proper ukemi without getting hurt. The Sensei works hard to help them through the techniques so that injury is prevented but the kohai also has to work hard to receive the techniques and absorb by proper yielding and recovery. Therefore as congrats go to the Sensei they are also reserved for uke for taking the ukemi

I think it is one of the most beautiful of all arts , to me it no longer matters if it is effective or real , it is visually stunning and these two clearly have a great passion for it . Thanks for posting this video .

Great Sensei Shirakawa perfect and fluid sequencies

It’s a beautiful and flowing style, but apart from the dramatic music, there is nothing here to suggest a real battle. What I see is two highly skilled practitioners practicing Aikido techniques cooperatively.

Aikido Is so beautiful in 23 years of practicing it is have broken many bones .. and had some awful bruises. .And all to become a master of nothing like these two . Masters of a conceptual dance . I’m so glad I woke up and saw that with some minor adjustments .aikido can be used for combat .You just have to stop dancing and actually fight.

Added to my favorites this is officially my new workout..I’ve been im martial arts since I was a kid. I’ve practiced some of the moves featured here but great to see nevertheless.

A lot of these moves actually look like yoga? Anyway being an aikido and yoga practitioner myself I find interesting that these two disciplines are very complimentary and the “yoga body” is the new “aikido body”.
