Eating Finnish Cuisine including Reindeer Meat, Salmiakki, Karelian pastry, Salmon & Rye Bread

Eating Finnish Cuisine including Reindeer Meat, Salmiakki, Karelian pastry, Salmon & Rye Bread (c) Nomadic Samuel - Travel Channel

(c) Nomadic Samuel – Travel Channel Over the years I’ve transformed from being a backpacker to more of a flashpacker. Part of this transformation has to do with my …

The “Salmiakki” you are eating isn’t even the strongest stuff on sale. It’s actually quite soft an sugary. Haganol “Apteekkarin Salmiakki” or Apothecary’s Salmiakki and some of the craftmade Tar-Salmiakki blends have more bite to them. They are good though.

Salmiakki is like the best kind of candy you can have. I could eat them all day every day.

The Aakoset salmiakki really isn’t that salty compared to others, almost flavourless

I have some salmiakki in my house right now (United States) 🙂 My friend Sanna brought me some from Finland 🙂 I’ve always liked black licorice. Salmiakki isn’t extremely salty to me though

Fun video 🙂 I’ve been living in Finland for 10-1/2 years (from the States originally) so it was fun to see you guys looking at all the stuff in the grocery store that I’m now used to. Plus, I noticed you bought stuff on sale (those big orange stickers!) 😀 And yeah, if you don’t like licorice, you’ll hate salmiakki (and even salmari) like I do! Actually, when I wen’t back to the states, I brought some to my aunt who loves licorice and she really liked salmiakki – it’s one of things you’ll either love or hate!

Hi there! Thanks for visiting Finland and being openminded to taste our food like salmiakki and rainbow trout which is quite typical salmon here in Finland. What I missed was the beautiful picnic spots Helsinki has to offer. This city is so beautiful by the sea and all. And the amazing little islands everywhere!

Thanks for the recommendation. Indeed, I would say that micro-brewery beer is better than major brands almost 99.99% of the time 🙂

Salmiakki Aakkoset don’t taste anything like salmiakki, they’re too sweet.Try something like Apteekin Salmiakki, if you get a chance. Then you’ll know what salmiakki really tastes like.

Thanks for the video! It’s fun to see your own country from the point of view of a foreigner. :)Btw, if you ever come back here, you should try the tar candy. Or tar ice cream. I think those are really tasty… and interesting! 😀 (Because they sound bad but are really good.) Assuming of course you haven’t tried them already.

Much better vlog about Finnish food than Anthony Bourdain or any other has ever done, totally loved this video 🙂 Keep on doing the great stuff, you’re awesome!

That beer (Sininen, means simply “blue”), known also as Lahden Sininen since it originates from the city of Lahti, is easily one of the most watery-tasting beers in the country. I’d definitely recommend some of the local micro-brewery stuff rather than the common beers. Probably applies to everywhere else in the world too 😛

“Salmiakki beer” 02:30 was actually a finnish long drink (also known as “lonkku” or “lonkero” (which literally means “tentacle”). This one has salmiakki and lemon (“sitruuna”) flavor.

Salmiakki is just sooo good <3 Im from finland so its funny and weird to look when you guys doesn’t like it! But yea i cant live with out salmiakki <3 :3

Really nice and informative video, keep up the good work guys.

That’s very interesting!I’m hoping to find better Salmiakki the next time I am there 🙂

You got the right beer. Love Sininen. They used to call it Lahden Sininen because it’s brewed in my home town of Lahti 😉

Hahaha LMAO you guys are hilarious 😀 This is just so hilarious to watch as a Finn 😀

I am from Finland and salmiakki is my favorite candy 😀 Good that you liked it 😀

There are some really good pasta salads without meat; although they do typically have cheese.

Oh by the way, the smoked fish at 06:01 (kirjolohi) is actually rainbow trout not salmon 🙂 But just as tasty 🙂

Great content guys. This video made me feel like visiting N.Y, my favorite city in the U.S. I wish you could have visited museum of the meoving image in Queens, but nevertheless this was a great guide. Keep up the good work

I love New York! Even though I’ve been there several times, I still learned a few new things from this video, thanks for sharing!

Thank you for sharing some of the interesting things to do in NYC. I visited NYC with my family last month and we went to most of the places you recommended. We had a blast. Thank you for making this video

Quem sabe um dia conseguirei fazer a viagem dos meus sonhos at New York. um sonho que alimento desde muito jovem e ainda no consegui, mas, no perdi a esperana. rsrs

Thank you so much guys, this is a great video and so helpful! We’re going to NYC next month and I cannot wait to visit all the places you recommend.

Hi! There thanks for the great video, it is very helpful for informative. Planning on visiting soon, I wonder how long do you need to stay in order to explore all the spots that you have shown in the video? Thanks!

I loved the first part of the video showing the places to visit, but I didn’t like the second part with the food, it was just too much. I don’t think I will like the food in America, it all seems fast food-y and just too big…But again, thank you for the first part! 🙂

Thank you so much for this. Don’t know if I will ever get there, but this is as close I have come to date! Lovely show. Cheers.

Could you do Smorgasburg in an hour or so? Trying to plan a trip, but don’t have much time. And I don’t want to miss it.

Very nice video. You two should also check out Pensacola, Panama City, Tampa, Orlando, and Miami….all in Florida.

I’m a New Yorker. You have represented us well. Thanks!

I’m from the UK and I’m hoping to visit New York for the first time next May!! Can’t wait!! 😀😀

Excellent video. Going to NYC in October as I go every 3 years. Love NYC!

Great video. Thanks for sharing. Absolutely loved it. Keep em coming. BTW did you guys finish all the bagels?

Flying in to NYC this Sunday (second visit). This video has given me some good time ideas, thanks. That burger at shake shack looks tremendous, I am sitting here in bed with hunger pains now. Was it expensive? Grwatvideo, well done you guys. Richie.

Very good video. I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing. You channel always has a very interesting video!

Great video, should’ve watched before my trip

Great Video, congratulations guys!!!Even though I am a little mad at you, you made me feel very hungry, it was not easy to watch that kkk. Anyway, great job!

my favorite thing about New York city is the Brooklyn bridge

How many days did it take you to see all of this? I am meeting a G.daughter who’s in College at Colgate in August. We’re from the MS Gulfcoast and have NO idea where to begin but, thanks to you……..it feels do-a-ble (is that a word)? We just don’t know how many days we should plan on? Also, we’ll be coming from Syracuse, NY. TYSM!

There’re many types of noodle (phở, bún, miến, hủ tiếu, bánh đa, bánh canh..) with different ingredients, different ways to cook it in Vietnam. And you should find out about the best local restaurants before you eat. Not every restaurant serve delicious foods in Vietnam. The best restaurant always keep themselves the secret to make that dish unique ^^ sr for my bad English. (T 3 T)

Hi I’m new to the channel and I subbed! I love your traveling videos:)

Great video! Are salads ok to eat when they have been washed in water you cannot drink (Tap water in Vietnam)? Looking for some advice!?

You should go to Hanoi :D, besides Hoi An, SaiGon, Hanoi is very famous for the diversity in food and dishes, Try some. It will be different from Hoi An or Nha Trang cuisine.

To Samuel (Nomadic) and Audrey (Thatbackpacker), warmest congratulations on your Wedding last Saturday. Have a long and happy life travelling together! 😀

Love your videos! 🙂

Im in the south of vn. Here , we eat the pancake have a little diference from them . We have no rice paper and the pancake is mixed with some vegetable and then try them with the garlic and chilli sauce

I love Asian Food.

They’re called summer rolls not spring rolls btw. Spring rolls are deep fried, summer rolls are made with rice paper which are quickly blanched in hot water.

Romanian Food: An Introduction to Romanian Cuisine

Romanian Food: An Introduction to Romanian Cuisine (c) Nomadic Samuel - Travel Channel

(c) Nomadic Samuel – Travel Channel Come join us as we explore traditional Romanian food in Bucharest and Brasov. Romanian Cuisine is very underrated and …

i fell like Romania is one of the most traditional places on earth

The closeup of the pancake looks so incredible! Literally drooling here guys. Mental note – Don’t watch your videos until AFTER dinner 🙂

I am in Canada now and Thank you for bring me so nice memory about my native land.. I hope you had a wonderful time in Romania.

mouth watering food!

I’m from Romania and I’m happy so see your reaction 👍I leave a like

Food looks great, I love polenta, my mother cook’s it in an an Italian tomatoes based sauce. So good

I am a romanian and the food its delicious 🙂

Hi guys. I am Romanian. The food you eat is nothing what we the locals or living abroad would call as “traditional”. Sure thing the Transilvanian cook took inspiration from several traditional dishes such as “bulz”/ the polenta balls stuffed with cheese a shepherds’ Classic with a lot of changes perhaps learned in his/ her timeOf working in West Europe ( typical situation in our days). all other mix and matches with abundant meat mixed with melting / kind of mozzarella like/ cheese, really we don’t have it within our traditional cheeses/ are made for tourists menus to sale good but not having one iota of anything Romanian. Sorry to disappoint many. One more major observation. The lady calls Romanian food not for vegans. Again nothing more outside of truth. By religion the Romanians are mostly Eastern Orthodox. This religion requires about 5 months of the year to observe a very rigid restriction to any food of animal origin, a period call lent. Therefore Romanian gastronomy is very rich in vagan dishes:zucchini, grape leaves ,or tomatoes or bel peppers stuffed with rice and mushrooms are delicious! I can’t count of how many salads, “tocanitza” de cartofi , egg plant (roasted on fire) salad and many more. BTW what you call “ pancake” the desert rich in chocolate with rum sirope and whipped cream on top it’s a very poor American translation of “papanashi “ / it is more of a funnel cake soaked abundantly with a rum sirope. One more observation. Transilvania/ Brasov where you have been eating is a geographic area where Hungarian and German influences are typically found in all the food. Try some other cities next time south of Carpatian mountains. And do go to small family owned restaurants: that’s where you really find the true “ca la mama acasa/ like in my mother’s kitchen/“ food. Pofta Buna! Bonne apetit!

Your channel is excellent. I hope YouTube or a big external site features it someday. Friendly, down-to-earth & fun. Thank you!

Just a small observation: La placinte is a Moldovan restaurant; it has Romanian dishes, but some are typically Moldovan. By Moldovan, you should understand coming from Moldova, the eastern neighbouring country of Romania. There is also a region in the eastern part of Romania called Moldavia (also Moldova in Romanian) and this is a historical part of the country. It can be confusing to foreigners, especially because Moldovans and Romanians speak the same language, it’s just that Moldovans are still under a sort of Russian influence (most speak Russian) whereas Romanians are not. Anyway, La Plăcinte is Moldovan, from the country Moldova, so not all the dishes are Romanian. 🙂

TFS! Great video. I want to try Romanian cuisine now.

When I was a kid, we used to make the balls of polenta with cheese on the spot, taking chunks from the round polenta, and we called them “little bears”. For some reason it was seen as kids food, and I haven’t had that in years – the adults just “dip” the polenta in crumbles of cheese.

your both are truly amazing and beautiful ! keep with more about you good suff about Romania ! Love you and peace !

next time when you go to romania, look for “papansi” as desert

You MUST visit more often! Hope you enjoyed your trip here!

next time you can try “ciorba de burta”and “fasole cu ciolan afumat “and make sure you have plenty of muraturi!!! which are sour veggies ,that will bring the food to an extra level!!! and “”mici too !!! as desert i would give a shot to “amandina” if i was you . !!

Hi! I love your videos! Do you have a video out that details how to afford consistently traveling? What to save, how to budget, etc? I saw one that was country specific, but do you have one that is kind of a blanket video for traveling in general? I’ve been all over the US (where I’m from), Canada, Mexico, and I lived in Brazil as an International Volunteer. Thanks for the great videos!

so nice the work you are doing. we are waiting you to come again in romania xD

I love Rumanian Food and language as a Latina I enjoyed the and respect the culture.. love some polenta or mama liga

Love it 😘😍😋
