When I was in Iraq with the British army we had to do vehicle checks on the same boarder also down the shatt al-Arab river … Weird watching you walk round reasonably safe compared to how it was back then. Great video BTW.

Hi Indigo traveller, I really appreciate your visits to the middle east, it is no doubt that you are a unique civilization lover, unfortunately the media has destroyed the reputation of Middle Eastern people, but brave persons like you lead the way and make it possible for other persons to know these cultures closely.I am from Syria, and I wish one day that our country transforms into a completely democratic and free country, away from dictatorship and terrorism together.

I remember the Iran-Iraq war since I was 18 in 1982. I remember reading the news on it and Iraq had the support of the USA because of the Iran hostage crisis. Americans despised anything Iranian. The news reported that Iran had more soldiers so their strategy was to send waves of soldiers since they were more expendable to Iran. Iraq had better weapons and missiles so it was Iraqi tech vs waves of Iranian soldiers w small arms. I think it was a stalemate for a long time.

They have some good food at the border. Such a pretty laid back lifestyle. The simple life and the friendly really made Iran beautiful.

Watching this video really touch me, I’m from that Slum, i’m from Petare. You were just standing beside my highschool when you were in that petrol station at “El Llanito”, when you were inside the church in “El Carmen” that i used to attend and where my grandparents got married you were just in front of my elementary school and barely one block away from my family house. Seeing you so close to my roots, to my family, to my friends was really touching. I am one of the many that left the country because of the economic and social crisis, I’m actually living in Per�, i arrived here after travelling like 6 days in busses. As you could see for yourself, the crisis are no jokes. And from the bottom of my heart, i just want to thank you, thank you for helping my comunnity, for showing me again the streets i grew up.Really, Thank you very much Indigo Traveller from a Petare�o and a Venezuelan.

I come from one of those slums. I could easily be one of those kids. I was so lucky that, back in the day, my own country gave me a good education for me to have a better life. But I just broke into tears when I relived those childhood moments through this video. My country does not deserve this suffering, which is the ultimate consequence of corruption and greed. Thank you for the great service you’re doing. Many people will appreciate this.

I fled to South Korea in 2012 and Just finished your video that you had a great time on the seaside of North Korea calls Wonsan that I was born. Miss my hometown a lot but you gave me the opportunity that I could see my place that I grow up. Big big thank you to you. It’s really cool that those kids talked to him, cos I was at school with some NK students in China and I’ve never heard anybody telling me “Yeah, just made friends with some NK students…” They had a class to their own, their own teachers, their own subjects to study, and seemed to be just there to borrow the facilities. But to be fair, we didn’t actively seek to talk to them either…they’re probably really nice and friendly but just intimidated by the foreign and, well…patronising environment.

Never been there but the most beautiful thing in this episode is the lovely kids. I loved the way they look, their uniforms, their smiles and everything. Innocent creatures in a bad place.

I have been binge watching all your videos started with your videos in Venezuela which I really enjoyed love your videos, thank you for putting yourself in difficult situations to give us amazing views we wouldn’t normally get. Watching this series, everything just feels like a facade. Like you aren’t actually seeing the real North Korea. Not even being allowed to talk to the locals about their day to day life is so crazy.

He does a good job being respectful but objective.

As surreal and weird as North Korea is, it’s still really really nice to see people just having fun and enjoying the nice weather! Alot of times I think we forget that these are all REAL people living in a seemingly “fake” country

These videos give us a very interesting insight on life in NK. Even though the locations and interactions are carefully crafted by the tour groups working with the regime, I still find it interesting to see what kind of ‘picture’ they want to portray to people on the outside. Some viewers are a bit too harsh saying ‘oh you’re supporting their propaganda’ or ‘why are you spending money there?’; thing is we all know it’s fake, hell I bet he was thinking it the entire time but he still documents what he can giving us his thoughts based on what he CAN say at that moment while still being respectful and I think that’s quite powerful.Edit: Also the videos are so aesthetically pleasing. Really great travel videos 🙂

North Korea still a very closed country. Nice you are opening it up to the world. Very brave of you to travel there. Roads empty. Not many cars. Looks really rigid.

I’ve only seen 3 or 4 of your North Koren videos I subscribed to your channel now, I’m hooked. You covered so much ground on your visit. A lot more than any other person I’ve seen. This particular clip brought tears to my eyes to listen to kids yelling out hello. They must of been curious to see an “American” or a foreigner on that once in a year day out. The innocence of children who are groomed to dispise another culture. This country is beautiful. Thank you for sharing this with the world. I look forward to all your other video clips.

When I was starting with this video what I thought I would be seeing are ruins, desert, old building, many people wearing traditional arabic clothings, untidy people weary of war, old and few cars, some tanks and war vehicles, guns , and poorly maintained streets and environment. But I was so so surprised to see a very progressive place in this part of Iraq. I’m so impressed with the proofs of wealth: gold, luxury cars, new buildings, good restaurant, well clothed and good looking people. With so much honesty, I can say that I’m so happy for the Kurdish people in this area. May the Lord give me and my family, the opportunity to visit this place someday. I hope and I pray that this territory will remain peaceful and affluent; and that other Kurdish people will be joining them, and they get their other ancestral lands from countries that annexed those lands. May the Lord continue to bless the Kurdish people, and may the Lord bring spiritual revival and salvation to this land.

Thank you again sir ! (for helping us see other people beyond Western news) I visited central and southern Iraq in May 2002, for humanitarian reasons, but did not get to really visit Kurdistan. People are super kind and welcoming, well, when one is not waging a military occupation/invasion. The United Nations should recognize the Kurdish regions as a different nation, with their own democracies, and give them at least one UN seat/vote, even if that would anger some in Iraq, some in Syria and enrage Turkey (who is waging a criminal aggression against some Kurdish regions in northern Syria).

this looks like the side of iraq i want to visit, looks beautiful, I don’t care about the gold stores, and fancy cars on the street, that doesn’t have to be there, but it just looks more inviting, the people seem friendly, very different that what we see.

This is amaizing to see and very interesting. I would definitely love to visit this place. My grandmother has told me all about what happened in Chernobyl 😔 so did my uncle and he is still living and I love speaking to him about the war and this and our history. It’s fascinating.

I have seen documentaries about old grannies living in those abandoned villages, they seemed happy and they said they rather lived and worked the field in their own house than lived in an apartment block in a big city… Those were tough ladies, growing their own food (radioactive I guess) and not caring about dangers. I sure respect their decision!

Hi Nick. I did a similar tour of Chernobyl last month. I have traveled to 115 countries since 1985. This tour was in my top handful of one day experiences, fascinating, thoughtful and intense. It really makes you think. It is incredible to see the abandoned buildings along with the trees and wild life that have come to dominate the area. I highly recommend viewing the documentaries available on you tube prior to your tour of Chernobyl. Great job Nick- my guide was also excellent- if you are near Kyiv it only takes one day, two would be preferential.

After I watched chernobyl tv series. I wanted to watch someone who visited here. This is the most serious, well explained video series on youtube about chernobyl. Its because he is far away from populism. He literally wants to share his trip with us. This is not a video made for clicks. I can feel the sincerity of him

You are brave, given some areas there put out dangerous radioactive energy. Radiation doesn’t always hurt you right away. Please be safe as radiation is not a Russian, Ukrainian, or US problem but a human problem. The meter he is using is ok but not the best.

This is phenomenal, Nick. I’ve seen other reports — like National Geographic— about Chernobyl, but I love seeing your point of view of this all! So fascinating. Abandoned places are interesting to see in general, but THIS abandoned place contains so much specific history and context, it’s great. Thank you so much for visiting and filming here! Utterly phenomenal! seen a few Chernobyl videos, but you rip them apart with this. Informative and educational with word for word social history “bring enough food for three days – you will not be gone long” – Igor is so knowledgeable and your interactions are excellent. Those poor dogs, freezing and potentially contaminated, even Scotland was badly effected with 10,000+ sheep being killed as not fit for human consumption. Looking forward to the others Nick, thanks mate.

A former colleague was hired by the KGB to investigate the close encounters of the third kind at Voronezh in 1989. A high-ranking military friend of his told him that hovering UFOs helped to avert the Chernobyl reactor from reaching critical mass and exploding. That probably won’t make the TV series however.
