5-inch Naval Gun Fires at Maximum Fire Rate (20 Rounds & 13 Rounds)

5-inch Naval Gun Fires at Maximum Fire Rate (20 Rounds & 13 Rounds) (c) USA Military Channel

(c) USA Military Channel U.S. Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60) and Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Chancellorsville (CG …

Ya just gotta love how it just gently tosses the used shell out.

One thing the sound didn’t capture: the faint whistle of the outgoing shell. -Heard that a few times as a civilian on BIW sea trials.

During the Vietnam War, I was in a US Army helicopter unit at the coastal city of Nha Trang. The BB62 US New Jersey Battleship cruised near our shoreline and dumped many 16 inch rounds into the mountains three miles to the west of our Nha Trang Air Base. The VC were up there hiding in caves after Tet68. The whistle of each shell passing over our heads was “music” to our ears. Thank you US Navy for that awesome show…

The 5″ 38 of WWII was rated at 15 to 22 rpm and that was hand loaded.

Honestly I do miss the battleships blasting the 16″ inch projectiles miles away, those were cannons…

You really need to see those training projectiles skip like stones on the water. I’ve seen some skip more than 20 times off to the horizon. It’s fascinating, and then horrifying when you remember that it’s a 30 kilogram steel tube full of sand, and each of those skips are miles apart.

The 5 inch guns of WW2 American destroyers fires slightly faster at 22 rounds per minute. But considering how massively more advanced fire control systems are I would definitely take the slower rate of fire

You know what’s even cooler? This is 15/20 year old technology! They have even faster 5 inchers in development/testing!

how amazing would these guns be if they were around back on world war 2… do you think itll be a big impact against 16inch tripple turrets, do you think theyll make single barrel rapid fire 16inchers instead of triples?

If you listen carefully during CG-62’s segment, there’s a second firing report after each shot. I suspect that the aft turret is firing as well, we just can’t see it.

I’ve seen the 5 inch/54 Mark 42 gun firing from Knox class Frigates. At max fire rate it’s almost twice at fast as the Mk 45’s.

Thats a Mark 45 mod 2 IIRC..later ships had the Mark 45 mod 4. The Mod 2 has the curved turret shell whilst the Mod 4 is very angular 😉

Nobody:90% of the Japanese comments here: *I want those used shell casings*

I kinda remember a 5-inch gun being cooled off with water being sprayed forward to the barrel coming from the same area where the cases were being discarded, am I wrong and that was never really a thing? or is it on a different gun/ship???

Is it just me or is this incredibly slow? I worked on a 3″ 50 double barreled gun on the USS TRIPOLI LPH 10 that put out double the rate of fire out of one barrel. And we actually hit our targets. We said that the 5″38 was slow and couldn’t hit shit. Too complicated and unreliable was the scuttlebutt.

I’d like to see how close those shots grouped to the targets.

Nice to know walking fire is still a thing despite how old the concept is.

Nothing but honor and respect to these great and disciplined warriorsNothing quite like their accuracy and control

I absolutely love seeing the transition drill!! Perfect form, and smooth movement equal dead taliban!! Good job boys, keep kicking ass!!

weapons that have extraordinary power.

I love that M45. Just such a nice 1911.

I miss this shit….just shooting all day…Going through the drills so much it becomes second nature. Now I’m retired….i still got it

Happy to see the 1911 is still being used here…well they call it the M45 but still great to see an iconic weapon still being used…

Makes me miss the OLD DAYS when I was in the Service and Training with the Security Force having a BLAST at the RANGE!

Precisely my “go to” weapons.

Switching to pistol is faster than reloadingGAZ

Awesomeness….stay safe Warriors!

Love the sweet blessed sound of freedom!!!🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸

The 1911 is still the best combat pistol in the world 😎👍

What a beautiful line of work. May the God saves all those who have to sit at a dask all day long to make living

The M4 Carbine is a beautiful military weapon, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the new military weapon.

Very nice look at what the force is actually receiving from Sig. Removable slide top plate seems very interesting for adding special operations sights. IUID marking in the frame window vice etched numerical serial. Slide and frame color mismatch is puzzling. Send me to the range for qualification immediately Top! My utilities are in the closet…and still fit!

Totally awesome nice target practice too.great video too..thank you for everything that you do..

Easy to tell that these soldiers have very little handgun experience; what a pity that the army does not take the time to train them with handguns properly. I even noticed one of them was practically using a tea-cup grip.

Such a badass looking weapon i love fde guns i personally prefer this one to the m92f

Now I have one of these very same M17’s setting at my house due to the recent release of several thousand from the Army, back to SIG.

Is it me or is there a fair amount of flinching amongst the shooters? When see a grown man’s head react to the light recoil of a P320 9mm, that just about has to be nervous flinching. I am a vet myself and I respect these young soldiers a tremendous amount. I am just thinking they need a lot more practice and training if their life is going to depend on shooting a pistol.

Nice gun❤️

Gorgeous gun

I’ve shot a P320 and I love it

Beautiful❤️😎💥

Amo muito tudo isso kk

The testing for these pistols was cut short and never completed but you will never hear that from any official source. Our troops now have a partially tested at best and unqualified pistol to defend themselves with. This coupled with the fact the the US military is notorious for poor service and maintenance of their firearms especially their pistols means that those issued these will be at risk of not being able to reliably defend themselves. It would have been better and much more inexpensive to accept an improved M9 from Beretta since the 9mm caliber was not changing. At the very least they should have gone with the Glock offering as it is already a much more proven design then the Sig ever will be.

I have a Subaru 2014 forester xt and I absolutely love it. Honestly. Japanese! What that boat needs is a football field! I’m positive the men and women serving on that callosus would love it. Can you picture it? Awesome. Anywhere in the world. RESPECT to you ladies and gentlemen ready to put your lives on the line to protect people you don’t even know.

I love the electric catapult because you can launch more planes faster, and it doesn’t take a lot to adjust for the weight, more planes in the air we can get up fast the better, less moving parts too

You all work in such a hostile environment everyday. You are all so very brave. Much respect to all of you.

I imagine the arrestor cables are inspected frequently for voids or fractures but has a cable ever snapped or gave away when a plane was landing?

@1:00 The stealth planes have come a long way! Even invisible t the naked eye

Greatest military in the world 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️

Rock on! And that’s like watching the rehearsals and solo practices for the PBS Series “Carrier” where I would be dead on deck in 10 sec without a seaman holding my hand.

Very, very nice! Cool! 😉

Beautiful. SImply beautiful.

In one word,OUTSTANDING!😯

The USA is by far the greatest and most powerful country ever on earth and no one else comes close

There’s a VLS for ESSM, the 16-cell Mk48. Does the Ford-clasa have these, or are stuck with the trainable Mk29?

God bless America 🇺🇸

it’s true you really can’t see those stealthy jets:)

nice job!

awesome!

Always glad to see US/Japan military cooperation.

I’m stationed in Okinawa and I would love to train with them!

Makes me happy to see how great American and Japanese work together so well at these military exercises. USA and Japan, great friendship.

Never will I forget when I was firing for qualification with my 45 . After a few rounds I was unable to get a sight picture …my front blade sight had fallen off my 45 pistol . 😉 Semper Fi Sgt. USMC 1961-1965
