Aikido vs Straight punch(Possibility of Aikido)

I like the fact that he is focusing on how to prevent the second strike. We should always focus on that.
I really appreciate how straight the Sensei’s back is throughout his techniques and that he never loses his center.
I always laugh at the comments some people make. Great demonstration of how to trap an incoming punch. Some people comment here about MMA this, BJJ that. Street fighting has no rules. No system can guarantee your survival in the streets. In my 58 years on this earth, I have had my share of encounters growing up in New York. I started training at age 9, my foundation is Kyokushin kai-kan. Over the years traveling while in the military, stateside and overseas, I trained in other systems as well. I still train and stay in superior shape. The best way to defend against anything in life is constant training for muscle memory, stamina, accuracy, power and speed. That doesn’t guarantee victory, but it does IMHO, put the odds in your favor. To the two Aikido practitioners in this clip, thank you for sharing it.
There are some interesting stuff overlapping with traditional karate. I see a lot of the same framing, arm trapping followed by throws as seen in the opening sequences of the Pinan katas, more specifically in Pinan Shodan in Okinawan styles or Heian Nidan in Shotokan. The portion where the gentleman in the video seized the uke’s arm and briefly hyper extended the elbow is seen in the Seisan or Hangetsu kata as well which are shorter versions of a Chinese form found in Incense Shop Boxing. The human body is governed by a set of mechanical principles so while there is a wealth of approaches to fighting it makes sense that many styles converge on certain principles.
Que Maravilha….Perfeito.
Sensei’s Shirakawa 6th dan degree is clearly located in his movements’ elegance…. and for sure in his teaching by uke’s sensibility and physical preparation.I really appreciate all your videos: I find the true Aikido meaning. Many thanks for soul pleasure you give generously
I quit already if I was the attacker. Clearly, I’m not getting his wallet at this point.
“Aikido is a form of selfdefense, not to hurt others” -my dad
Thanks to the Aikido instructors for sharing! Good footwork, flow and joint manipulation possibilities. Aikido however is limited and thus falls short of being a complete self defense system . I have found that Aikido is a good addition to anyones (especially those coming from a Judo / Jujitsu / Karate background) system. Who has a desire to smooth out their defensive footwork and taisabaki.
Nice step toward maybe doing a sparring within normal boundaries of course, looking out for each other. Thrilled to see more:)
I love the art, and definitely used against an street thug it is a great self defense. 👍
Franchement c est super ^^ tres bonnes techniques
Though this Sensei is Aikikai, he also has a BJJ background and I love how he focuses on the self-defense aspect of aikido. He really tests the boundaries of aikido in each of his videos often going into unchartered territory. Well done Sir.
I really hope and wish Shirakawa sensei to get the 9 or even 10 dan in his career. So many not ordinary, hard and spectacular jutsu he knows!
Have you ever tried it in a sparring match? I have tried many similar techniques but from other systems and some of them work very well especially arm drags and armbars after having destroyed the second punch (opponent must be tired or dizzy first). But throws is another matter…have you ever nailed them in a sparring match with an unwilling opponent?
That is one of the best exhibitions of Aikido I have ever seen..!!
I can’t believe this is true! Thank you people for your efforts to show us all this! 🙂
Great form and stamina from Uke!
I like that you showed it with more speed and gives you some realizations what is good for when you use it together and even when another martial arts combined

This martial art is so cool. You only have to grab your opponent’s arm and your opponent will start flipping and rolling all over the place by himself.
no-one:aikido master: flippity floppity get off my property
I am more impressed with dude that falls .
what if the bad guy doesn’t give you his hand and follow your lead?
I am going to test this on my 80 year old uncle while he’s shaking my hand before christmas dinner.
Video title: demonstrationGrandmasters of the internet: this would never work irl, it’s almost like it’s choreographed
Those kids sure know how to take a tumble.
a beautiful dance, but it needs techno music.
As long as the opponent does not try to punch or kick and just benevolently gives you his hand, aikido is badass.
Really looks like the sensei is just dancing
That man is tossing some goddamn salad
You gotta love the: “Lol, what if the baddie doesn’t want to hold hands?!”-comments.It literally says “Demonstration” in the title. It’s a showcase. If applied in actual combat, obviously your goal is to anticipate an incoming punch or kicking and take control of your opponent’s momentum, as *demonstrated* in this *demonstration*. That being said, knowing how to deal with getting thrown around without getting hurt is every bit as impressive. Lastly, no, this is not some kind of fine-tuned ultimate fighter “destroy another human being”-martial art. Half of it is about healthy exercise and practice.
Applause, applause, applause…Thank you so much!
Everything you need to know about aikido can be learned by watching the “attackers” in these videos.
Such Harmony! Nice!
Ah this takes me back my auld man was a green belt and spent my whole youth throughing me about my garden
does it work with no-complaisant ennemies ?
Do the martial art that makes you happy. When you choose one, look for information about it, be honest with yourself and enjoy the training! Nice video by the way 👍 Stay safe!
ive learned aikido for one day and i can throw my opponent to the floor in eight different ways its quiet easy

SHOWZAO,PARABNS PELO TRABALHO EXCELENTE,…Arigato gozaimassu
This has been the best demonstration of Akido I’ve seen so far… The technique so smooth and flowing. Respect to the Sensi and momoko. Please post some more demonstrations..
PERFECT! Domo Arignato Gozaimasu ♥️Slow motion, several times.Exactly what we need to learn! Thank you so very much.
Excellent Aikido natural movement. Momoko has great attitude!!
Sensei very humble explanation, especially your statement that practicing martial arts was to detects some threats not to put ourselves on danger. Hopely someday i can practice aikido with u…thank you
The first universal technique of martial-arts : Runaway. Thanks for this dmonstration, congratulation to the great students ! And special thanks to explain that the self-def can’t be so easy, needs many year of training ! 🙂
Momoko is so beautiful…and dangerous.
This video so far is the best of aikaido but without explaining and showing the foot -work it’s hard to imagine how to execute the Technics.thank you
Well done Sensei. As a long time practitioner of Aikido, I appreciate your techniques and style.
Very nice presentation, sensei! Furthermore, we should be grateful if you could teach us defences against hard kicks and punches as well! For example technics against muay thai kicks and jab- cross- hook combination! Thank you in advance!
Thank you for sharing the video!!It’s an amazing!!!! Momoko!!
Thank you very much for sharing your hard work and excellent/elegant videos.

difcil de acreditar que isso realmente srio :’)
I do Aikido, and I love it. It’s been 8 years
The issue I’m having with this is when he does the “slide under the arm” any jiujitsu black belt with almost immediately pull a guillotine. Or if a real collegiate wrestler grabs you from behind like how the Akido masters student did. I think the posture/calm collected Akido master would be a little more cautious about the “softness of Akido”. All these fundamentals fly out the window when you getting punched in vital areas. Just saying 🤷🏻♂️ I would still like to see a MMA modification of Akido for wrist control and to counter judo in the Clintch and various close quarters combat.
Amazing stuff and truely effective. Thank you for this video. People like to say it’s fake because the opponents throw themselves. I explain to them that in some situations they have to because if they try to go against the momentum, their bones, joints, etc. Will break if they try to hold back. Some people will just have to experience it to understand. (Learn the Hard way). LOL
Aikido works if someone is just mindlessly charging at you with an arm or two out. It is the perfect style to learn for the zombie apocalypse.

A great team having alot of fun learning.Akido is a great art.Love the movements.
I love watching you guys so much! In a world full of so much chaos you guys are a breath of fresh air. I incorporate the moves I learn here with my judo exercises. Both of your YouTube channels together are very funny.
Cant stop laughing to watch this, thank you for the lessons, really appreciate it sensei…
