How to survive a tsunami :Be the camera guy

AH YES NOT A 1 HOUR LONG VIDEO FINALLY SOMETHING THEY CAN EXPLAIN IN JUST 3 MINUTES WITHOUT HAVING DRAMATIC MUSIC

Me: **The only one here for school work**

This is so well put and explained, thank you!! I’ve always had an interest in tectonic plates.

Me and my family got caught in 2004 Tsunami. Luckily, all of we survived. Most devastated thing I’ve ever seen. 😐

TED-Ed is one the best educational channels on youtube with its easy to grasp examples and animations

Hey! This is an irrelevant question but I am asking ‘Which app are you using to animate this video??’ Please answer as soon as possible. And the video wad wonderful, thanks for giving such a nice video.

i’m definitely not here because i have an assessment that was due 2 weeks ago that contributes to most of my grade

If Poseidon was so powerful why couldn’t he afford a pair of pants?

fun fact: the highest ever recorded tsunami was over 1100 metres in Alaska caused by a massive landslide, where only a father Fisherman and his son saw it. (but they survived)

Best explanation of what a tsunami is so far. Good job!

Very clearly explained. Thanks a lot helped me for my midterm

This should have a lot of people re-thinking their beach-house.

Really informative… Excellent job!

This video really helped me because i am doing a project on this and it had so much info

I feel bad for the animators who had to sit there and illustrate what this job is doing to them.

“Sitting is bad for you”Me sitting on my wheelchair for the last 28 years.

me, who sits 7 hours everyday because of online school: 👁️👄👁️

for students here commenting that sitting down to study: use the pomodoro technique. 25 minutes of studying and 5 minutes of break. you can always flex yourself in the 5 minutes that are meant for break. Also one can exercise after studying if time permits,

“Why sitting is bad for you”*School : I’m gonna pretend I didn’t see that*

Fun fact:If you walk every half hour you will have a lot more time to walk once you get fired.

Risk of having a body: Everything eventually breaks.

“Sitting for too long is bad for you.”Me: *Stands up immediately*

As a teacher, I was rarely sitting down but now we do all the lessons online and I’m literally sitting down the whole day and I can feel how it affects my brain power and concentration.

Me: stood up and wiggled for 2 seconds I’m good. sits back down.

*”SITTING FOR TOO LONG IS BAD FOR YOU”*schools: _sweating intensifies_

A genuine thanks for this video!! As I student, I used to sit around 10-12 hours a day… But, now I will make some changes in my routine and will surely take breaks!!

anyone else think how much they hate schools for the extremely long sitting times?when I was a youngster I loved to swing on my chair cause I guess my body subconsciously wanted me to move, yet the morons always told you not to swing on your chair..

Last year I bought a desk with electrically adjustable height to be able to switch between standing and sitting regularly during the day. In december I also bought a small foldable walking pad which I can place below the desk and walk while working. With just 2kph it’s still pretty easy to work and I usually use it once in the morning and once in the afternoon for around an hour each, which enables me to walk 4 kilometres and 8000 steps each day while working. Definitely my best investment for office equipment! I can highly recommend it to anyone who is bound to a desk while working.

Feeling sad for programmers and other I.T. related people who have to work the whole day to make this world a better and safer place 🙁

“Right now you’re probably sitting down to watch this video”me laying on the bed*: *HA*

5 years later during online classes It hit you different 😂

Ted: Sitting in a place for a long time reduces oxygenMe:*starts breathing aggressively*

When I used to teach hour classes at school, I’d always plan for half that time to be an activity that requires being up and walking around. One great game to play in the classroom is dictation relay, good for wheel chair traffic too.

Thank you school for making me sit for 7 hours every day and making me so tired that I sit for another 5 hours in a row reading, drawing, or watching TV 😀 so healthy

The great conspiracy against Julius Caesar – Kathryn Tempest

(c) TED-Ed View full lesson: http://ed.ted.com/lessons/the-great-conspiracy-against-julius-caesar-kathryn-tempest On March 15th, 44 BCE, Roman dictator Julius Caesar …

“So you killed caesar to save the roman republic.”Brutus: “yes””what did it cost?”Brutus: “the roman republic.”

whether or not julius did say something to brutus, the fact that he just immediately gave up the fight at the mere sight of the boy whom he treated like a son is heartbreaking enough

“One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it” -Master Oogway 🐢

“And you Child?”*He covered his face and gave up the fight.*That’s actually so sad 🙁

They said: “The worst part of betrayal is that it doesn’t come from your enemy”

Hold on, hold on, so you’re telling me I was assassinated?

Caesar: “I’ll keep fighting”Sees BrutusAlso Caesar: “Guess I’ll die, then”

* _Throws case file on desk_ **23 STAB WOUNDS, DIDN’T EVEN WANT TO LEAVE HIM A CHANCE!*

Senators: In the name of the Roman Senate of the Republic. You are under arrest Caeser.Caesar: Are you threatening me?Senators: The Senat will decide your fate.Caesar: IAM THE SENATE!

“Never fear your enemies, fear your friends, because your friends will betray you, your enemies won’t.”

“And you child?”if you listen to it closely you can hear me weep

3:26 “We don’t know Caesar’s actual dying words?”But we do:”Name a salad after me…arghhh…”

Never betray your friends. If they are on a wrong path, tell them calmly. If they don’t listen, tell them that you love them and walk away until they realize their mistake.

Also worth noting that Brutus’ mother was a long time mistress of Julius Caesar. So judging by the way Caesar treated him (and by the way he reacted when he saw Brutus with the conspirators) I believe It’s a good chance Brutus was Caesar’s son.

Brutus after killing Caesar: WHAT HAVE I DONE?!People of Rome: to but it simply, you doomed the Republic, killed your adoptive dad, and caused Caesar salad to be invented.Edit: 255 Likes!? Thanks so much!

“and you child”Damn it teared my heart a little bit🥺

I feel a bit bad about how Caesar gave up fighting when he saw Brutus, the boy whose life he had saved and raised like a son. It’s shattering to be honest. I can’t imagine what Brutus also must have gone through after witnessing that scene. Caesar also must have been heart broken. The want for power broke both Caesar and Brutus.

“we killed julius caesar so we’ll be safe now””but there are wars and everyone is panicking””you’re welcome”

If his last words were actually “And you child?” I’ll be rolled up in a corner crying by now

That must be really painful to see the one you trust the most ending stabbing you in the back, i feel you Caesar, been there too

I like how this video remained neutral by mocking stereotypes and figures from both parties, really don’t see this kind of stuff enough

I don’t much about voting and stuffs. But I think North Korea has the most fair system of voting. You can only vote for one person. No tension no stress. You already know who was won even before results are declared

The states choose the president, not the popular vote. There is no national election. There are 50 separate state elections.

Everyone is talking about the voting or whatever, but I’m still wondering why Wyoming is shaped perfectly!

Answer: “your vote counts, but only on swing states”

I still have no clue how voting works I say we just have the candidates have a fight to the deaththese replies got too.. political for me. for clarification, this is a joke

As an Australian I have never really understood this system so thanks for the explanation. That’s nuts that one candidate is selected for an entire state and a differing number of votes are awarded per state. Here we are split into electorates, electorates are smaller areas across the country, all with a fairly similar population size. (We have 8 main states/territories, but 151 electorates) Each electorate will then elect one party. For example I live in the Northern Territory, our city is Darwin and the population size means that this is one electorate all on its own while the rest of the NT, all though large geographically is incredibly remote and due to population only adds up too 1 more electorate. Very different people with very different priorities live in the 2 different electorates. We have 2 electorates within our state, that means we have 2 of the 151 votes. If 1 electorate favours labour, and the other librel then 1 vote goes to labour and 1 vote goes to librel. Seems like a fairer representation of the population (although not perfect and also has the possibility of the popular party not being elected, although it is rarer here then in the US)

Thank you for this video, this is the first time I am actually understanding how it works. No one seems to be able to explain it so clearly

Who’s here after the first 2020 presidential debate

Very informative. Ok, so instead of pushing the “go out and vote” chant, they should really be focusing when it’s time to do the census.

When it’s election day and you’re on this video trying to figure out how scared you should be

Whoever wins, poor people still lose. 50.1% of Congress are millionaires… we don’t even get represented.

*”If your vote didn’t count, they wouldn’t try so hard to take it away. Don’t vote because we want you too. Vote because they don’t” – Samuel L. Jackson*

Answer: “your vote counts, but only on swing states”

“Democrats can rely on Michigan”Well, that changed

Bottom line: Electoral college) makes the decision of who becomes President. People’s vote is just to see who is more popular among the Public At large to see how people can be manipulated using specific face to satisfy specific socio-political and economic private plans. Simple.

So what happens when an electoral college from a state is corrupt or incompetent of doing it’s job right?

I have finally managed to understand how the #ElectoralCollege works. Credit to this video Thank You

Showed a Republican winning California for an example, lol.

I think a better system would be having both candidates duel each other in a Children’s Card Game.Edit: dang! 2k likes. Thanks you guys! 😄Edit again!: 3.5k!!

The philosophy of Stoicism – Massimo Pigliucci

The philosophy of Stoicism - Massimo Pigliucci (c) TED-Ed

(c) TED-Ed View full lesson: http://ed.ted.com/lessons/the-philosophy-of-stoicism-massimo-pigliucci What is the best life we can live? How can we cope with whatever the …

Stoicism is one of those philosophies that anyone, regardless of their religious, political or philosophical views, should take certain aspects of.

“You have power over your mind, not outside events.Realize this, and you’ll find strength.”-Marcus Aurelius

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is greater than the suffering itself” – The Alchemist

Socrates : to do is to bePlato : to be is to doScooby : do be do

“Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one”-Marcus Aurelius

We suffer more often in imagination than in reality – Seneca the Young

“Sometimes to live is an act of courage”I don’t know how much my suicidal self needed to hear thisEdit: Thank you everyone in the replies for checking up on me i had to take a break from all social media to focus on my mental health and i’m in such a better place now. Its honestly wholesome to know so many strangers care about you love yall<3

Marcus Aurelius argued that kindness is more manly than anger.

Turns out i’ve been doing this since a long time ago without knowing it’s actually a thing .. im happier than ever now.Edit: thank’s for the likes English is my third language so try to focus on the idea instead of my grammar . And somehow i am still happy

This is my own quote for stoicism:”When you are at your greatest, expect the worst to come. When you are at your worst, expect the greatest to come.”

The thing many people miss whilst observing Stoicism is that it doesn’t follow the typical standards of positive thinking that are pushed in today’s philosophy. The philosophy of today would have you think that you should remain positive at all times with no exception. That differs greatly from how Stoicism works. For example, Marcus Aurelius would practice something called Negative Visualization for a short time in the morning. He would think of all that could go wrong in the day, what he would do to remedy each problem, and after this allotted time, he would move on from it and go about his day not thinking about it unless something actually went wrong. If something did go wrong, he was already prepared for it and could better remedy the situation. This is not to say he was a negative person. He was just better prepared to handle negative impacts if they happened. This is where the problem of positive thinking at all times is understood. If you do not prepare yourself, you are more susceptible to the weight of a negative situation being greater than if you had already been prepared for it. This is why so many people become depressed and their world stops. They don’t have the necessary coping skills built in. (I’m not saying it’s the whole reason people become depressed. Just giving an out for some of that stress of hard situations)

I lost my meditations book by Marcus Aurelius, I hope someone found it and read to change their lives for the better.

“this entire comment section is quotes that vaguely make sense”-Some smart dude

“To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering” – Friedrich Nietzsche

“The soul becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts” – Marcus AureliusWhat I basically live by.

“The problem is not the problem. Your attitude to the problem is the problem”- Captain Jack Sparrow

“Discipline is to know the difference between what you want now and what you want the most”.

“We suffer not from the events in our lives, but from our judgement about them!” – EPICTETUS

Stoicism seems to be a lot of things combined: being practical, self-control, moderation, love the enemies but hate their sins, and posses daily courage. Avoid being carried away by emotional extremes. Stoics control themselves to gain control of their lives.

“I don’t care who Socrates is. Tell me did you do your homework?” – My mom
