Is it just me or is literally everything in the ancient world was punishable by death.

imagine starving to death with no light, no water, no air, no way out. Just because a random person labelled you “impure”

15 yrs olds: I was born in the wrong generationAncient romans: am i a joke to you

Vestal virgins were very important at that time and they had very strong social and political hold. Societies find ways to take revenge from such people. It could be politically motivated as well.

This takes “You had one job” to a whole other level

When the video ended, I legit went “THAT’S IT!?” 😂 The ending is so depressing

“Imagine dying just because a flame went out”

That’s part of why being a historian is so difficult. You must understand the context and intentions of the time period so that it translates to modern viewpoints. A culture that praises feminism, individualism, and democracy would never empathize with a culture under a patriarchal empire.

“Impure” literally spells “I’m Pure,” SOOOOOOOOO

LOL Disney version of the Vestal Virgins. They were also very powerful and could override the legal system eg. If someone was being put to death they could stop it.

that one guy saying that one of the virgins were the one, is like that one player in among saying a random color and everyone be like “ok”

I was expecting a history lesson but I’ll settle for a tragic story

Guys, can we take a moment to appreciate how good the animation was!??

This is one of the things we refer to when we say “History of Misogyny and femicide”

“The romans believed that if the flame goes out, the city’s in danger”Wooow! No, if the fire spreads😐😐👏👏👏

Videos like this are so important for education because of how easy it is to learn from them. Thanks for the great video.

What exactly did they do to prove she is guilty, when they said “she was tried and found guilty”?

Would someone agree with me that this is one of the best historical animated video that Ted Ed has done? Perfect animation, clear narrative, interesting story and vivid plot. ❤️👏🏼Honestly I cannot count how many times I have watched this. 😊

Vestal virgins: were supposed to be pureElagabalus: *marries one*

After watching these things, I’m truly blessed to be born in this generation.

“can you solve the riddle”me: ozo

What if Zara could have answered after the second clue but, knowing her friends had no way of knowing the number of the hallway she entered, she asked for the third clue just to get them some extra information ?

“Concealed”*puts a giant stick in her hair*

“Dude tell me the WiFi password””The WiFi password is on the back of the router.” *The back of the router:*

Steps1. Confirm that you have green eyes.2. Leave the dungeon

‘Zara, a perfect logician, needed three clues’Well that’s reassuring.

Her life depends upon the answer…..Girl: I like pumpkin pies!

Plot twist: She just asked for the 3rd clue to give more information to her listening teammates.

I’m triggered because this is apparently the easiest one by Ted ed

“Has super powers that allow us to defeat monsters””Get’s kidnapped by a robot”

“Is greater than” *shows Equal to*”Or Equal to” *shows Greater Than*

I actually figured this one out.Greatest achievement of my life

Zara – The perfect logician. Also Zara: falls in a pit cuz she forgets that she can fly

It’ll be much easier when one of those heroes come out and say “This is The Lock Picking Lawyer and all I have for you today is dungeon door password”

While certainly an interesting logic puzzle, which I did solve on my own, the conceit that Zara only asked for the third clue because she needed it is a bit shakey, as she may have just asked for it to give her companions more information.

I had eliminated all numbers greater than 9 as only one digit can be keyed in. That, of course, took me off track.

Lesson :*Don’t be a hero so you don’t need to solve riddles that involves math and logic*

Step 1: confirm you have green eyesStep 2: realize that this is an overused (and maybe cringe) joke.Step 3: still ask the bad guys to leave

I assumed the digits could only be 0-9 (like a typical number pad). Luckily the solution still fell within that so I still got it right. 😅

The unexpected math behind Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” – Natalya St. Clair

I seriously doubt that Van Gogh took any of this into consideration when he painted “Starry Night.” He merely looked at the starry sky and in his ill mind he saw its wonders and painted this most loved picture. I thank him for it. <3

Van Gogh‘s mind was too beautiful for this world.

And in the end Van Gogh probably was like: ‘ oh lol this looks cool!’

For me ‘Starry Night’ looks like someone looking through tear-welled eyes

Watch the Doctor Who episode about Van Gogh, it’s literally the saddest thing on modern day television.

It’s like C.S. Lewis wrote, “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains.”

I learned that scientists in Mexico wear sombreros and ponchos and those in Spain dress like flamenco dancers.

I’m an art teacher and painted his Starry Night in preparation for an art class for adults and was surprised to find out how difficult it was. But it mesmerized the students when they painted it. Everyone loved it and put their own interpretation on it. (as art should be)

“For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.”That’s why he’s one of my favourite artists – such an unassuming genius.

“The cracked mind lets in light the whole mind cannot see.” – R.D. Laing

“The greatness of a mind is determined by the depth of its suffering.”― Hayao MiyazakiI wonder why society shames and ignores great artists when they are still alive and breathing, now it makes sense!

Craziness is not as crazy as it seems. It’s genius!

“Be clearly aware of the stars and infinity on high. Then life seems almost enchanted after all.”― Vincent Van Gogh

when you first thought van gogh’s “starry night” and “the scream” were just a painting. then you watch this. thinking maybe he went crazy because he is too smart.

‘Starry Night’ used to be my favourite painting when I was younger. But I can’t remember why. Nowadays, when I look at the painting through old postcards friends and relatives have sent me, knowing of my love for the painting, I feel nothing. And that makes me feel unbelievably sad. It makes me feel more robotic than human.

Vinny, you poor little man. You’ve suffered so much. May your soul rest in peace.

Hold on hold on hold on, I’m obviously a dumb ass cause I don’t quite get it. This was essentially saying that “turbulence” is the way in which a certain kind of matter unpredictably/chaoticaly moves, or flows, and we have since been able to theorize an equation that estimates the structure in which turbulance moves or will move? And Vincent Van Gogh’s starry night somehow visually represents very closely this equation?

the sadness will last forever

When I was doing van gogh for my artist research I hated his style because it took so long to do but it really helped me to get top marks with only an a4 piece and now I’m coming to realise why his work is so great and I even somewhat still use his style because it’s amazing

Never has a video said so much while saying absolutely nothing at all.

psyche: beauty is a cursealso psyche: looks into to a box wanting to take some of presophinas beauty

Gods: stabbed but okayAlso gods: oil burn, I’ll just leave my pregnant girlfriend alone for weeks

When someone says “Cupid and “ but doesn’t finish the sentence*say psyche right now*

Wait a minute you forgot the part that she was content to not know who her husband was, but she was tricked and persuaded by her jealous sisters

Narrator: they named her pleasureBaby: *shimmies seductively*

Narrator: *beauty is a curse*Me being a potato: *CoMe AgAiN*

Psyche’s sisters actually poisoned her thoughts, but okay. Also, the ants were there because of Demeter, whose temple Pysche had cleaned on the way while finding Eros(Cupid). She also cleaned Hera’s temple, so it wasn’t a river god, it was a pile of reeds that told her the answer to the second task. There were actually four tasks, the underworld task being the 4th task. The third task was to get a pitcher of Styx water. Oh well. it was a good animation though, and I loved it.

“…she heard an unseen voice say…” All voices are unseen.

Psyche: “Beauty is a curse.”Yet she tries to steal/keep MORE beauty for herself.

“how can i raise a baby with a man she has never seen” ok but this is perfectly reasonable

no one: cupid: and who am i? that’s one secret I’ll never tell… you know you love me. XOXO

When you truly love someone with all your heart, even the universe starts working to bring that person close to you or you close to them.

The version I read, stated that psyche loathed how beautiful she was because it isolated her from the world. Cupid had fallen for her not just for her looks, but for the way she handled it: she didn’t want to be beautiful, she just wanted to be loved for who she was.

She did all of this while pregnant?!?? Man that’s effort. : edit so I’m saying that she is putting so much effort to be with her loved one while risking the baby’s health and her sim not saying her baby is a sorrow I’m saying she’s super strong and a warrior ( ps ty for all the likes!)

Me: Expecting a nice quote or something at the end of the videoTED-Ed: aND ShE, cUPID, ANd, pSHyCHe hAVe BeEN COmpLICaTING pEOplES lOve LiVeS evER sENse!!!

Psyche: *Beauty is a curse*Also Psyche: I’m going to steal some of this extra beauty for myself-

I love how the gods don’t say no to anything. They just give you a series of impossible tasks. How polite.

Cupid’s arrows always cause tragedy for everyone (including his mother), except for him.Cupid and Odyssey’s stories are two rare ones that have happy endings :]]

Psyche: “Beauty is a curse.”Me: If that’s so, then I’d have blessings wherever I go.

The dislikes are from teachers who don’t want students to go to the bathroom

This question runs through my mind at night while in bed not wanting to get up..

I’ve walked out of class several times because I had to desperately relieve myself and the teacher(s) just wouldn’t let me go. One of them ended up contacting my parents and in the meeting with them said he was disappointed they didn’t “teach me manners” because I had been “extremely disobedient” towards him and other teachers. When asked what I had done my dad requested to meet the headmaster with all the other teachers that had a problem with me and berated them. That was an amazing day 🙂

Holding your urine fortoo long can weaken the bladder muscles over time. This can lead to problems such as incontinence and not being able to fully empty your bladder. Holding your urine for extremely long periods of time can also cause urinary tract infections due to bacteria build-up.

“Holding it” for too long too frequently as a child partly caused me to develop bad bladder infections and I had to be on different medications for 2+ years and regularly have an Urodynamic evaluation- painful procedure where they insert a catheter and fill your bladder with water until your body forces you to release it to test bladder pressure. I also came very close to having a major surgery but thankfully the right combination of medications helped. Fun times.

let me just *emails this to every teacher*

The meanest thing I ever heard of was a teacher my grandmother had in elementary school. The teacher would not let any of the children leave class to use the bathroom. My grandmother refused to be like other kids who wet their pants. She held it. And held it. When she got home she found she couldn’t pee at all. They had to take her to the doctor.

I got a UTI from having to hold my bladder at school. Bathrooms were closed during lunch due to vaping. And my teachers had a bathroom pass system in place. You got extra credit if you didn’t use them.

This year I developed contamination OCD, and started to hold my pee for really long stretches of time because I was scared of going to the bathroom and spend 2 hours washing my hands. During these months anyway I gradually became unable to hold my pee for such long periods, and even if now I’m quite fine and not scared of anything, just a bit lazy, I think this really bad habit has come to damage my body: right now any tiny amount of urine causes me to feel like I’m about to let a waterfall out, it’s painful, urgent and really annoying; when I get to the bathroom running, it turns out is just a normal or even fewer amount of pee. Surely there might be something else going on, and I will get visited, but yes guys, treat your bladder with respect!!

I had to hold in my pee several times when I went for my ultrasounds. Safe to say I hate doing the ultrasounds but I would get to see my little baby moving so I forgot about my anger ❤️

Isn’t it amazing how our body works without us even being conscious of the complicated and interesting things it every day does?

“Humans should urinate 4-5 times per day”Me: goes a day without peeing

When I was in my third grade, I had to pee quite frequently which I couldn’t help it. My teacher hated it. Once she walked in and I really had to go pee. I asked her permission and…she just slapped my face so hard. I was a small kid. I didn’t say a word. I didn’t tell my parents. I literally had no friends. I went back of the classroom and cried in silence. My cheek got red print from her tight slap because I wanted to pee. I am 25 now and I remember every bit. I’ll never forget her.

during a school trip in elementary school I held my pee for almost three days, I can still remember after all these years how painful it was never again

Thank you for giving me more “useless” information to share with my friends

I shouldn’t have watched this before I go to sleep, now all I can think about is my bladder slowly filling

I was in a non communicative state in a ward in hosp when I was regularly emptied of pee by sitting me on toilet, a bright young doc decided to fit me with a catheter without telling me what it was for. I waited for my emptying time which never arrived, I was in so much pain but not able to scream, eventually the pain became so great I almost passed out. So I thought I will just have to wet my bedding, only to find that I became relieved with no wetness in the bed. They then explained what the pipe was for. This was 24 years ago, I still have a damaged bladder that has been stretched beyond its limits with no pressure and acts like an old balloon which empties in stages.I have learnt to live with it, but so-called clever docs cannot understand what or why.

Part of being a professional is to make your pupils, tenants, patients, audience, customers, employee, boss etc comfortable and made to feel welcome.

I remember I was too shy to even use a public bathroom. I will never forget in 9th grade when I held my urine from morning to the end of the day.. omg I almost peed myself last minute. But thank God an Angel sent someone to open the door for me so I can go. And thank God I didn’t receive damage or an infection.
